Description
This is a painting of where the lava is flowing into the ocean on the coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. The woman in the painting is Pele, the Hawaiian Goddess of lava and fire.
The subject matter means a lot to me because I used to live on the side of the mountain where the lava now covers. The volcano eruption of 1988 forced us out of our home. The lava has been flowing into the ocean ever since.
If you’re ever in Hawaii, I suggest you go check out this location. It’s amazing to see two very powerful elements of nature meeting each other. I tried to capture that in this painting.
If you are unfamiliar with lava or this location, take a look at the reference images for examples. The coastline is constantly changing, so every picture you see of this will be different. The painting represents how I remember it from the many times I have gone to the flow.
I hope you enjoy it. c&c is of course always welcome.
